Maison 78’s Exterior Wraps Up at 1487 First Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

Construction is nearing the finish line on Maison 78, a 35-story residential tower at 1487 First Avenue on the border of the Lenox Hill and Yorkville sections of Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Designed by Hill West Architects and developed and built by Carmel Partners, the 404-foot-tall structure will yield 146 rental units in one- to four-bedroom layouts. The project will also include 7,120 square feet of ground-floor retail space and a cellar level. The property is located at the southwest corner of First Avenue and East 78th Street.

Former Whitney Museum Building Designated Individual, Interior Landmark at 945 Madison Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) has unanimously designated the former Whitney Museum of American Art building at 945 Madison Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side as both an individual and interior landmark. Designed by Marcel Breuer and Associates and completed in 1966, the Brutalist-style structure served as the Whitney Museum’s home until 2014 and is now set to become Sotheby’s new global headquarters. The building is located at the corner of East 75th Street.

Weill Cornell Medicine Opens New Residence Hall on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

Weill Cornell Medicine has officially opened its new $260 million student residence hall, named the Feil Family and Weill Family Residence Hall, on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The 16-story building, located at the northwest corner of East 74th Street and York Avenue, will house 272 students and includes 163 studio apartments, seven one-bedrooms, and 51 two-bedroom units, all with full kitchens.

THE 74’s Terracotta Façade Reaches its Crown at 201 East 74th Street on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

Façade installation has reached the crown of THE 74, a 32-story residential tower at 201 East 74th Street on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Designed by Pelli Clarke & Partners and developed by Elad Group, which purchased the property for $61 million in April 2022, the 420-foot-tall structure will yield 41 condominium units and a collection of amenities. SLCE Architects is the architect of record for the property, which is alternately addressed as 1299 Third Avenue and located on an interior lot facing Third Avenue with two small panhandle extensions to East 74th and 75th Streets.

Demolition Imminent at 1477 Third Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

Demolition preparations have begun at 1477 Third Avenue, the site of a 15-story residential building on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Designed by BKSK Architects and developed by Noam Shemel of Kano Real Estate Investments, the 159-foot-tall structure will span 25,754 square feet and yield nine condominium units with an average scope of 2,677 square feet, according to permits filed in 2022. The development will also contain 1,658 square feet of commercial space, a cellar level, and a 19.5-foot-long rear yard. The narrow 4,745-square-foot property is located between East 83rd and East 84th Streets.
