Construction is nearing completion on 321 West 38th Street, a 26-story Best Western Hotel in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Gene Kaufman Architect and developed by 319 West 38th Steel LP, the 250-foot-tall structure will span 44,200 square feet with an undisclosed number of hotel rooms and a collection of amenities. The property stands on two adjoining interior plots between Eighth and Ninth Avenues.

The Torch Resumes Construction at 740 Eighth Avenue in Times Square, Manhattan

Foundation work has resumed for The Torch, a 52-story mixed-use supertall skyscraper at 740 Eighth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by ODA and developed by Extell, the 1,067-foot-tall structure will span 875,372 square feet and yield an 825-room hotel topped by a public outdoor observation deck with a drop ride attraction in its signature stemlike column. The project is also slated to include lower-level retail space, a restaurant on two of the upper floors, a VIP lounge, and a pool deck for hotel guests. SLCE Architects is the architect of record for the development, which is located along Eighth Avenue between West 45th and 46th Streets on the border of Times Square and Hell’s Kitchen.

Exterior work is progressing on Vermella East Brunswick, a 40-acre, $500 million complex in East Brunswick, New Jersey. Designed by Shore Point Architecture and developed by River Development Equities in partnership with Russo Development, the master plan will span nearly 790,000 square feet and yield 535 rental apartments and 218 townhomes. The complex will also include retail space, restaurants, medical offices, and additional commercial space, as well as indoor and outdoor residential amenities. The project site is bounded by Ruth Street to the north, Lake Avenue to the south, Route 18 to the east, and Renee Road to the west.

Silverstein’s Massive New Mixed-Use Tower, The Avenir, Revealed in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan

New designs have been released for The Avenir, a 45-story mixed-use tower in Hell’s Kitchen being developed in a joint venture between Silverstein Properties, Rush Street Gaming, and Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment. The 785-foot-tall structure designed by CetraRuddy Architecture and Steelman Partners will feature a gaming facility, 1,000-room hotel, as well as dining and entertainment. If approved, the building is expected to create 4,000 construction jobs, more than 5,000 permanent jobs, and opportunities for local business and community participation.

New renderings have been revealed for The Tryst Fire Island, a forthcoming hotel redevelopment in Fire Island Pines, Long Island. Designed by Marvel, the three-story building will be operated by Tryst Hospitality and will yield 30 redesigned guest rooms, a complete exterior overhaul, and an integrated vision for the adjacent Waterfront at The Pines consisting of The Blue Whale, The Pavilion, The Pool Deck, The Canteen, and The Gym. The aging building, formerly known as The Botel, is located between Picketty Ruff Walk and Harbor Walk on the western side of the Fire Island Pines harbor.
